Hi Seoul Festival

Saturday rolled around with a phone call from Janet. After some quick location planning, we were on a subway for the Hi Seoul Festival in Yeouido Hangang park with some of the Munsan ladies.
We detoured to the Safe Seoul festival briefly where we signed post-it notes and stuck them up on a firetruck.
Everyone wrote something random...I opted for "I think your tractor's hot" - because writing "sexy" just seemed dirty at a festival aimed for safety purposes.

We took a few photos. This guy seems pretty popular in Seoul but I haven't spent much time investigating his story. He seems to be the mascot of Seoul.

After seeing enough of the Safe Seoul festival, we continued our walk to the Hi Seoul Festival. It was in Hangang park which is be-a-u-ti-ful! There is this huge wade pool where kids and people can cool off their feet/go swimming. I don't know if you can tell but the girl to the right wearing the black shorts and long sleeved short is soaking wet.

There were all sorts of performances going on but these guys really stood out. There were three bird-like creatures that walked around the festival making prehistoric noises and scaring all the kids. It was awesome, they were awesome. They reminded me of something straight out of the classic The Dark Crystal. Jacob ran off and got video of the little demons.

The video of these magnificently designed creatures is located below. Enjoy!

These people were being held up by a crane. There were six guys drumming and one girl in the middle doing acrobatic tricks. I counted how high up they were by the building behind them, at least 16 stories high. INSANITY.

We picked up that guy, his name is Paul and he's from Georgia too!

The ladies and I took a group photo with the yellow guys of Seoul. Once again...I'm going to assume it's some sort of mascot - adorable either way.

We were watching the kids play in the wade pool thing and I decided to take a picture. Losing my wonderful Georgia/Texas/Florida tan! Koreans value paleness, they think it's beautiful. There is one lady I work with who is so white, you would think she is albino. Ghostly white.
The kids playing in the pool. I told Jacob that, come summer, we are so jumping in that water. I don't know how those kids were swimming around in that pool, it wasn't a hot day! Brave little Seouls - haha, get it? Seouls!

I have to get the atmosphere right for describing how this picture was taken. There was a "parade" going by that was playing  this uber creepy music. Janet saw the statues and decided that we had to pretend to be the little boy and little girl. Haunting music playing in the background...sitting next to these creepy little statues and pretending to be them felt a little strange. I think we got the likeness down though.
We were able to see one performance from Théâtre du Sursaut. It's described as...
The "Little Red Riding Hood" story that we  don't know!
How much do you know about "Little Red Riding Hood?"

A board fence larded with finds for a setting.
A disrupted "Little Red Riding Hood" for a script. That's enough to make Lorgnette exultant. She plays at being amazed, taking us into her personal world full of inventions, knick-knacks and mood swings...Little Red Riding Hood is a capricious child and Grandma is not exactly easy-going, but the Wolf is the real thing.
A Wolf as fierce as one could wish, thanks to Lorgnette's best efforts.
Funny faces, an extravagant acting, surprises, this is what "Post-Scriptum" is made of.
A visual, absurd and offbeat performance.
The night ended with an International Fireworks show. This was the largest and longest fireworks show I've ever seen in my life.

I don't know if you can see...I'll post a bigger picture on Facebook but this is a picture of one of the coolest things I've ever seen done with fireworks. This is a bridge, they put fireworks underneath the entire bridge and set them off at the same time so that the bridge looked like it was on fire underneath. It was pretty awesome, no lie.

Just a little video of the fireworks. Hard to capture just how awesome the show was but you'll at least enjoy the background conversation.
