School

I'm starting to learn more about the kids. I've been lucky enough to have an awesome co-teacher who keeps me in the loop (well...maybe I ask a lot of questions too). We are constantly having discussions about the students and their home lives now. I've never been one of those teachers who just waited until another adult was in the room then blabbed on and on about nonschool related things. I enjoy knowing about my students, I want to learn everything I can about them.

But man...am I getting tired.

I understand why half of the people who become teachers quit within the first five years - it's a tough job. Well, it can be a tough job when you care how you do it. I happen to care if my students are engaged in activities, listening, and if they are learning while enjoying themselves. I want them to look forward to English class.

But man...it's a lot of work. I mean, really. Between teaching my morning classes and having all my afternoon classes...I'm getting pretty exhausted. I'm constantly searching for new things to introduce to the students. I have stacks and stacks of crosswords and worksheets that the previous teacher used but I'm not into worksheets...sure, I do use worksheets occasionally because the students do need to practice writing and reading English but not as much as the previous English teacher did.

Speaking of work, I am off to go find an activity for my 4th graders and my ASP class tomorrow. I've been wracking my brain for a while but haven't thought of anything yet...my brain is a procrastinator - I'll get some great idea while I'm on the bus for school tomorrow...just watch.

Temple this weekend! Golgulsa! Pretty excited.
